Experience the Overlander's Way

From the Great Barrier Reef to the heart of Australia

For more than 100 years pioneers have been discovering the Overlander's Way. Today, travellers can follow in their footsteps on a 1550 kilometre driving adventure across the breadth of Queensland and into the Northern Territory linking the wonders of the World Heritage listed Great Barrier Reef to the rugged Aussie Outback.

The Overlander's Way follows the paths of our droving heroes who brought vast herds of live cattle from the east Kimberley to the coast. The route, which later served as an important supply line during World War Two, starts at Townsville and takes in the Outback towns of Charters Towers, Hughenden, Richmond, Julia Creek, Cloncurry, Mount Isa and Camooweal on the Queensland-Northern Territory border and Tennant Creek.

Hard Times Underground Mine Tour

Mount Isa
The 3 hour Underground Mine Tour operates 7 days a week. Bookings are essential and can be made by calling Outback at Isa. All equipment is provided, including boots, however participants are asked to bring a pair of socks. www.outbackatisa.com.au

‘Porcupine Gorge’ National ParK

Hughenden
Spectacular gorge system running for 27km has two lookouts and camping facilities at the Pyramid Lookout and walking tracks from the camping area. The Gorge is known as the “Little Grand Canyon”. Campers can book online, phone or self register. www.flinders.qld.gov.au
