Porcupine Gorge Challenge Location: Hughenden   type of event: Sports   When: 16/06/2012 to 16/06/2012 The first Porcupine Gorge Challenge was held in 2001 in conjunction with the Centenary of Federation celebrations. This event was not only to challenge serious competitors but to give the opportunity for locals and adjoining communities to enjoy such a wonderful natural attraction, whilst walking the gorge with friends. Competitors travel from vast distances to compete; some who camp at the Gorge for the weekend enjoy more than just the challenge. Categories include Open Men's, Ladies and Under 16 and Under 12 section for boys and girls, with the overall winner taking pride of place on the perpetual trophy. A special perpetual trophy is also awarded to the first local Flinders Shire resident past the post. Hughenden Campdraft Location: Hughenden   type of event: Sports   When: 17/08/2012 to 19/08/2012 Hughenden Campdraft is an annual event held in August each year at the Hughenden Showgrounds. The event is affiliated with the Australian Campdraft Association and attracts top competitors from across Queensland and the Northen Territory. Campdrafting is a national sport in Australia and originates in the early days of the Australian stockman. The sport today is conducted in a set of yards attached to an arena and requires the competitor to "cut out" a beast from the yard or "camp", follow it out through the open gate into the arena where he must guide the beast around a course of a right and left hand turns before guiding it through a gate, all in a few short minutes. The prestige associated with a win in a campdraft of several hundred competitors is invauable to the owner of the horse, as the winning horse is ranked amongst the finest stock horses in the country.
